About Us

We are first-generation direct-market farmers who established Turnip Rock Farm in 2008 and opened Cosmic Wheel Creamery in 2015. We milk 10–12 cows once a day seasonally, producing artisan cheese in 80-gallon batches for local CSA farms, farmers markets, and wholesale. Additionally, we manage 1.5 acres of outdoor vegetable production, three high tunnels, and raise 15–20 hogs.

Daily Responsibilities

A typical day begins with milking and animal chores from 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM. The remainder of the day is dedicated to seasonal garden work, such as planting, weeding, and harvesting. Occasional assistance is needed in the cheese aging room and for cutting/wrapping products for market. The workday typically ends at 4:00 PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch at noon.

Schedule and Hours

- Milking/Grazing: Minimum of 18 hours per week (Monday–Saturday).

- Garden/General Farm Work: 20–25 hours per week (Monday–Friday).

- Time Off: Sundays are off; Saturday afternoons are off following morning milking.

Projects and Training

Tasks include fence and building maintenance, equipment cleaning, and potential operation of tractors or skid loaders. While experience with power tools and machinery is a plus, it is not a requirement. We will work together closely while you learn our systems and will provide training tailored to your comfort and competency levels.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay: $15–$19 per hour, depending on experience and commitment.

- Flexibility: We offer 20–50 hours per week. We are open to hiring candidates specifically for milking/grazing if there is less interest in gardening or creamery work (though this may limit hours to under 30 per week).

- Housing: On-farm housing is available for full-time employees committed to 40 hours per week and weekend milking rotations.
